My great aunt had this recipe written in her recipe box and I know this sounds strange, but I promise it works and you won't taste the vinegar. You will also see it in another one of my old fashioned cake recipes. There is a chemical reaction of the vinegar to the baking soda that when combined, makes for a very moist cake. If you think this sounds strange, try the mayonnaise cake!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix dry ingredients together. Make a well in dry ingredients and add wet ingredients. Mix well. If the batter isn’t very loose, add just a bit more warm water, 1 tbsp. at a time, until you get a thin batter. This will make a very moist cake.

Pour into an 8 or 9 inch square pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Let cake cool then dust with cocoa powder.
